Can a Damaged Tree Be Saved Instead of Removed?
A damaged or structurally concerning tree doesn’t automatically need to be removed. The decision depends on the extent of the damage, overall tree health, structural stability, location, and whether the underlying problem can reasonably be managed.
Harmony Tree Care identifies dead or dying trees, hollow trees, insect-infested trees, trees that have outgrown their location, and trees presenting property-safety concerns as potential candidates for removal. However, some structurally vulnerable trees may have other options.
Cabling and bracing, for example, can provide additional support for certain at-risk trees. Trees with multiple similarly sized trunks can be vulnerable where those trunks meet, while older trees with open canopies may sometimes benefit from additional structural support.
An arborist evaluation can help determine whether pruning, cabling, bracing, plant health treatments, or another approach could reasonably preserve the tree. When deterioration is too extensive or the tree presents an unacceptable risk, removal may ultimately be the more appropriate recommendation.
